The Ultimate Long Haul In Flight Beauty Routine {Guest Post}

The Ultimate Long Haul In Flight Beauty Routine

{This is a special Guest Post from Jennifer Freitas of TheTruthBeautyCompany.com}

There is nothing like waking up in a foreign country; getting up close and personal with another culture can be invigorating, and enriching.

However, getting to far away destinations can often be taxing on our bodies, especially on our skin.

There are a few easy steps that you can take to ensure you strut off the plane looking fresh-faced and feeling your best.

Pre-Travel Prep Prepping your face for travel means clean skin.

Make-up free or minimal makeup skin is the way to go. This will keep you looking fresh, even on long haul flights. Nothing ages a person more than racoon eyes from mascara that has smudged; for me mascara is an absolute no-no for flight travel.

Certain beauty products are necessities though. Personally, I love my products so I specifically like travel sizes; that way my products are always with me so I can do a touch up whenever and wherever, and also I am not fearful that they will be gone if my luggage were to ever get lost! I am what you would call a ‘Green Beauty’; all my products are without harsh / toxic chemicals so a lot of what I am going to suggest actually multi-tasks as makeup AND skin-care, which is great, especially if you want to travel light.

The essentials for long flights:

Take products that can do everything, like Juicy Bamboo Kaia Cleansing Cloths. They are a makeup wipe, hand-wipe and a quick way to freshen up. The cloths are biodegradable, so you needn’t worry about waste. They benefit your skin through providing a source of moisture -- honey -- as honey is a natural humectant! Keeping the skin dewy is a MUST as the recycled air in flight can take it’s toll your skin.

To keep my skin from drying out and feeling dehydrated, I rely on Cocoon Apothecary’s Rose Water Toner. The antioxidant properties of rose water help to strengthen skin cells and regenerate tissue. I always have a salve with me. Wildcraft Care All-purpose is my salve of choice; I love that it contains frankincense, which helps soothe any irritations. I use this gem to keep my hands soft and I also use it as my moisturizer. It’s balmy nature keeps me dewy for days!

We all know the importance of using a daily sunscreen, so it should not come as a surprise that one makes this list. Graydon Clinical Luxury makes a facial moisturizer that contains titanium dioxide, as well as zinc, which act as broad spectrum UV blockers. Chemical sunscreens pose a host of dangers that I would rather avoid, and minerals (like zinc) are super beneficial for skin as they are naturally antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Let’s talk about funk. No one, and I mean no one, wants to sit beside someone with body odor. The cute and tiny pots that Schmidt's makes are the perfect travel companion. And the fact that it is a cream means I can even rub some between my toes to keep my feet smelling fresh!

Just say no to breakouts. Rocky Mountain Break-up Buster is the size of a lip balm but it can do sooo much! If i ever feel a pimple coming on, a dab of this keeps it at bay. The tea tree oil makes it super effective at not only keeping my skin clear, but also speeds up the healing time for cold sores, and can even be used to soothe bug bites!

Another non-negotiable for me is concealer. Flights can wreak havoc on your sleep patterns and dark circles do favours for no one. RMS ‘un-cover up’ is in a tiny pot that is light and portable; it brightens my eyes instantly, making me look awake and rested (which I am certainly never, when disembarking from a flight).

Choose versatility in beauty products first. Another RMS product that I consider a staple is the Master Mixer. It is so versatile that I can use it as an eye-shadow, bronzer or luminizer. Talk about multi-tasker! Plus the coconut oil in the RMS products feeds my skin some extra moisture.

Add a little colour. Lastly, a lipstick. Every woman should always be with a good lipstick; one that instantly brightens the face (and even one’s spirit). For me, a bright pink or a bright red is my go to, and I simply adore the shades Da’lish Cosmetics makes. I feel polished and sexy instantly (even if I haven’t slept well or at all!)

Remember to Moisturize

Moisture, moisture, moisture…. Did you catch that as a re-occurring theme?

I hope so. Remember though, that our skin is directly nourished by what we put in our body, so stay well hydrated when travelling. Skip the diuretics (coffee, pop, alcohol) and be sure to consume lots of fresh fruit and veggies!

Remember, clear and beautiful skin is totally possible when travelling! And believe it or not, you can fit this all into a TSA approved sized bag.
