How to Layer Your Winter Clothes in the Spring

How to Layer Your Winter Clothes in the Spring

Redefining seasonal style.

Transitional weather can be tough to dress for, but it doesn’t have to be. With many garments on the market designed with one season in mind, we understand that it can be difficult to mix-and-match capsule wardrobe pieces to produce polished, comfortable, and ultimately, temperature-appropriate outfits. Plus, creating year-round ensembles by repurposing pieces you already own is the most sustainable thing you can do! When spring rolls around, consider keeping your winter clothing out for a few more months as we walk you through five simple layering tips to style your wardrobe from winter to spring.

1. Blazer as Outerwear

Blazers are truly an all-season garment that can be worn alone, under warmer layers, or best of all - as outerwear. Layer your favourite blazer (ours is The Unblazer) over a classic tee to achieve an elevated and transitional weather approved look. This light layer can be easily removed as the afternoon sun warms up.

2. Lighten up a Winter Dress

Don’t let changing temperatures keep you from wearing your winter dresses in the spring. Simply start with a comfortable dress like The BeyondSoft Scuba Jacket Dress, leaving legs bare. Top your look off with a longer spring jacket, such as The Luxe ShapeKnit Coatigan, to shield your legs from the cool breeze like . On warmer days, opt for a shorter layer like The Oversized Ponte Blazer combining the best of both seasonal worlds.

3. Button-up Over or Under

We all know the classic button-up shirt so well, but why not give it a fresh look for a stylish spring outfit? Button-ups are extremely versatile and can be worn alone, or as a layering piece under a sweater, and buttoned or unbuttoned overtop of your go-to bodysuit or tank top. Consider The Effortless Boat Neck Top under The Cloud Jersey Button-Up, for a layered look.

4. Sweater Over a Dress

Believe it or not, sweaters and dresses get along quite well. Swap out your pants for a flowy dress or skirt - pops of colour, texture, or pattern are highly encouraged. Finish off with a solid colour sweater of your choosing, we suggest The Dressy Sweatshirt, which can be worn hanging free, tucked, tied, or cinched at the waist with a belt.

5. Transform a Scarf

A scarf may seem single-use at first glance, however this simple winter staple may be transformed into a top, cardigan, shawl or even dress (ahem… The Chrysalis Cardi) making it a versatile layering accessory. See the 8 ways to wear it here and learn about  the wide range of styles that can be created with one essential piece of sustainable clothing.
